1. Are windows made in wood better than Pvc? Although Pvc is easier to clean and maintain in our opinion it is inappropriate for many of our customers properties to have Pvc windows. It is much easier to put in the necessary detail finishes with wood rather Pvc.
2. Are windows made in hardwood more expensive than one made in softwood? Yes, but hardwood will last longer than softwood if the windows are not properly maintianed.
3. How often should my windows be painted? Windows should be painted/treated according to paint manufacturer's reccomendations, this could range between four to eight years.
4. How can I make my windows more secure? There are many types of security devices on the market to suit all types of windows. These can be easily installed.
5. What is Low "E" glass. It is a special coating to help with energy conservation. It essentailly help stops your heat escaping through your windows.
6. Do all windows have to be fitted with Low "E" glass? - No.
All replacement windows should be installed according to the relevant building regulations, document L - conservation of power and doucment N safety glazing.
However, there are exceptions to the rule - for example listed buildings and conservation areas.
